Spider Man VS Cicak-Man 3 in 3D
"Cicak-Man" 3 in 3D
With Edry Abdul Halim's "29 Februari" breaking records in cinemas nationwide on 30 August as Malaysia's first stereoscopic 3D film, his brother, Yusry Abdul Halim, also wants in on the stereoscopic 3D playing field, and is set to direct his "Cicak-Man 3" in 3D.
However, the third instalment of "Cicak-Man" will not be filmed using Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) cameras like "29 Februari" which creates 3D shots for the film. Instead, "Cicak-Man 3" will be filmed using a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) first, after which the film will only be converted to 3D during the post-production process. This method allows KRU Studios to save costs on filming, although they expect there will be higher expenditure costs in the post-production process.
According to KRU Studios' Executive President, Norman Abdul Halim, the film that is set to release next year will also see a huge overhaul in the cast line-up, but he refused to divulge any more details as to who will star.
"However, the film will still be set in Kota Metrofulus. Films like "Batman" and "Spider-Man" also saw changes in actors, so it's not wrong for "Cicak-Man" to do the same. I can only say that there will definitely be a lot of new concepts in the latest edition of the superhero film, not only from the technical aspects, but also to the story, which we guarantee will be more exciting," remarked Norman, who laughed when asked if Zizan Raja Lawak will don the "Cicak-Man" costume in the latest.
Regardless of the numerous changes, Yusry Abdul Halim will still remain in the director's seat for the sequel to "Cicak-Man 2 – Planet Hitam", which he also directed, and that the film will still be an action comedy. The film will also mark Yusry's fifth directorial feature film after the two "Cicak-Man" films, "Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa" and "Vikingdom".
"At first, Yusry wanted a new director to handle the film. That way, a new interpretation can be given to "Cicak-Man". However, seeing that the original idea and concept is his own, we felt that it would be better after all if Yusry continues to direct "Cicak-Man"," Norman said.
He continued, "We will continue to employ the skills of international stuntmen for the film, as our action scenes are not yet up to par with international standards. That way, we can learn from them. We've used stuntmen from other countries before in the films "My Spy", "Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa" and "Vikingdom"."
Principal filming is expected to take about 45 days, with "Cicak-Man 3" tentatively set to be released next year. Meanwhile, KRU Studios' production, "29 Februari", is currently showing in cinemas nationwide, with an upcoming release in Singapore on 6 September and Brunei soon after.
